Update:

Cruz Azul are recovering from the emotional blow of being eliminated once again by Club América in the Liga MX playoffs, having succumbed to Las Águilas in the semi-finals of the Clausura 2025.

Cruz Azul remain unable to beat América in postseason ties: Los Celestes’ last Liga MX playoff victory over their Mexico City neighbors was back in 1999.

Additionally, rumors have surfaced that head coach Vicente Sánchez will not continue in his role after this weekend’s Champions Cup final at the Estadio Olímpico Universitario, where Cruz Azul are to face Vancouver Whitecaps for the CONCACAF title.

Who will Cruz Azul play in Apertura 2025 warm-ups?

Ahead of the Liga MX’s Apertura 2025 tournament, which is due to kick off in mid-July, Cruz Azul have received invitations to take part in two off-season competitions.

In Morelos later this month, Cruz Azul will participate in a four-team event also involving fellow Mexican clubs Atlante, León and Chivas Guadalajara.

Held at the Estadio Agustín ‘Coruco’ Díaz, the pre-Apertura tournament will see Cruz Azul face León on Friday, June 20, before playing Chivas or Atlante two days later.

Cruz Azul have also been invited to another ‘quadrangular’ tournament early next month. In Veracruz from July 3 to 6, the renovated Estadio Luis ‘Pirata’ Fuente will witness matches against Colombians Once Caldas, Argentinians Newell’s Old Boys, and Liga MX club Mazatlán.
