What’s next for Mexico before the World Cup?
The Mexican national team has two friendly games still outstanding in November before flying to Doha for the 2022 World Cup.
The Mexican national team fell to Colombia 3-2 in the farewell match in California, the defeat coming on the back of an unconvincing 1-0 win over Peru at the weekend. With the 2022 World Cup kicking off on 20 November, the Mexican FA (FMF) have organised two more friendly tests for ‘El Tri’ side before heading for the Gulf.
Tata Martino’s team will set up a pre World Cup base in Girona (Spain) in early November and will face Iraq (a rival that has a similar playing style to group stage rival Saudi Arabia) in Montilivi Municipal Stadium on 9 November.
In order to be familiar with opening Group C opponent Poland, the FMF have arranged a game against Sweden at the same venue on 16 November. The team will then fly to Doha, Qatar for a few days rest before they start their World Cup campaign on 22 November.
Mexico are pitted in Group C of the competition and after the opening game against the Poles, ‘El Tri’ will face Argentina on the 26th of the same month and close the group stage campaign against Saudi Arabia on the 30th.
