English National League club Wrexham, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have announced that they will play a second pre-season friendly match in the United States days before they take on Premier League giants Manchester United in the last week in July.

Red Devils vs Red Dragons in San Diego

Back in March, legendary Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson joined Reynolds and McElhenney on a spoof video call which revealed the meeting between the two teams, which will take place at the 35,000-capacity Snapdragon Stadium on 25 July in San Diego, California.

Wrexham’s first-ever meeting with Chelsea

The Red Dragons, as Wrexham as nicknamed, have also lined up another clash with Premier League opposition in the form of Chelsea, who, like United, will be on tour in the United States this summer. The match-up with the Blues is scheduled for six days earlier, on 19 July, at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Wrexham, the world’s third-oldest professional football [soccer] club, as stated in their Twitter bio, were founded in 1864, while Chelsea have been around since 1905, yet the two clubs have never previously played against each other.

How can I get tickets for the 2023 FC Series?

Both matches will be part of the 2023 FC Series, in which a number of teams from different countries are expected to take part in exhibition games. The full line-up has yet to be completed, but more information can be found on the fcseries.com website. Public tickets will go on sell next week, on Thursday 27 April.

Wrexham have also revealed that they will play two further games in the United States, one “on the West Coast” on 22 July and another on “the East Coast” on 28 July. No opponents or venues have been revealed as yet.

Wrexham on the brink of EFL promotion

With two matches of the National League season remaining, Wrexham are four points clear of Notts County at the top of the table, with just one team earning automatic promotion to English Football League Two. A win for the Welsh club over Boreham Wood on Saturday will ensure they return to what is considered ‘league’ soccer in England for the first time in 14 years.
