When are the 2026-27 El Clásico games? Real Madrid and Barcelona schedule dates
The full 2026-27 LaLiga schedule has been released, with all 380 matches in Spain’s top division now officially set. Here’s the complete calendar.
The 2026-27 LaLiga schedule is officially here. The Spanish Football Federation released the full fixture list on Tuesday, confirming when each of the 380 matches in Spain’s top division will be played. The season kicks off on August 14 and concludes on May 30.
When are the 2026-27 Clásicos?
The first El Clásico of the 2026-27 LaLiga season will be played at Camp Nou on October 25, with the return fixture at the Santiago Bernabéu scheduled for May 9.
Defending champion Barcelona opens its title defense against Athletic Club, while José Mourinho’s Real Madrid begins the campaign against Real Sociedad. However, those fixtures, along with several others, could be postponed if players from those clubs are still involved in the final stages of the World Cup. The first Clásico of the season is scheduled for October 25 at Camp Nou.
How is the LaLiga calendar decided?
The fixture list is no longer determined by a simple random draw. Instead of selecting one schedule from 100,000 computer-generated options, the Spanish Football Federation, LaLiga and Liga F jointly created a single integrated calendar after considering more than 400 requests and scheduling constraints submitted by clubs and institutions. The goal is to avoid having the biggest matches across Spanish soccer competitions overlap on the same day.
With those factors taken into account, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona begins its title defense against Athletic Club. Newly promoted Racing Santander, Deportivo La Coruña and Málaga, three historic clubs returning to the top flight, will open against Villarreal, Elche and Atlético Madrid, respectively. Real Madrid faces Real Sociedad.

Not every club is guaranteed to begin the season on the weekend of August 14. Between four and six matches could be postponed because of the World Cup.
LaLiga agreed to delay games involving teams whose players are still competing in the tournament’s knockout rounds. Based on the league’s projections, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid and Athletic Club are the clubs most likely to be affected. That is one reason why Barcelona and Athletic Club were paired together in the opening round.
As expected, clubs such as Villarreal, Málaga and Real Sociedad begin the season on the road, as they had requested. Many clubs asked to open away from home because of ongoing stadium renovations, local festivals or concerts, while LaLiga also strategically places Clásicos and derby matches throughout the calendar to maximize television audiences and avoid scheduling them on the same matchday.
The first marquee matchup of the season arrives quickly with the Madrid derby. Atlético Madrid hosts Real Madrid on September 20, a familiar spot on the calendar, with the return fixture set for April 24.

No soccer on New Year’s Eve in Spain’s top flight
As has become standard in recent seasons, there will be no league games during the Christmas holidays, allowing players to spend the festive period with their families.
The winter break, agreed upon by the Spanish Footballers’ Association (AFE) and LaLiga, runs from December 22 through January 2, when league play resumes. Although LaLiga has previously explored introducing an English-style Boxing Day schedule, that proposal has never been implemented.
The league will also pause three times for international windows: from September 21 to October 6, from November 9 to November 17, and from March 22 to March 30.
In addition, the 2026-27 season features only two midweek rounds, on Matchdays 6 and 33.
