The first legs of the Champions League semi-finals are over. In one, Real Madrid vs Manchester City, we are not really any closer to knowing who will be playing in the final in Istanbul on 10 June. In the other, AC Milan vs Inter, we have a much better idea, even if it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the tie turn around in the second leg.

Vinícius and De Bruyne strike for Madrid and City

On Tuesday, Madrid and City played out a 1-1 draw at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in a clash which the Premier League leaders threatened to dominate but were unable to make the most of their early superiority. Superb strikes in either half from Vinícius Júnior and Kevin De Bruyne leaves that tie hanging nicely in the balance going into the return leg, which will be played at the Etihad in Manchester on Wednesday 17 May. Does having home advantage make City the favourites? Possibly, but this is Real Madrid and the Champions League.

Inter in command against AC MIlan

On Wednesday, Inter put themselves well and truly in the driving seat in their Derby della Madonnina semi-final against co-tenants AC Milan at San Siro. A decisive first half proved the different between the teams, with Simone Inzaghi’s side threatening to run riot after quick-fire early goals from Edin Dzeko and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Rossoneri eventually managed to stem the flow of Inter attacks and put up much better resistance in the second half, without seriously threatening to score. That said, are they capable defeating their city rivals by two or even three goals in the second leg, which will also take place at San Siro on Tuesday 16 May? You would have to say they are.
