Cristiano Ronaldo has been arguably the biggest name in football over the last decade or so. He and Lionel Messi were box-office opponents as they slugged it out year after year for Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. And that rivalry has continued in different guises even as they moved to new clubs in the latter stages of their careers.

Now, however, with the Portuguese superstar choosing to spend some playing time in Saudi Arabia, comparisons will be harder but, given his contract situation, are future competitive options likely to come up?

When does Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr contract end?

“History in the making,” Al Nassr tweeted as they greeted their new star. “This is a signing that will not only inspire our club to achieve even greater success but inspire our league, our nation and future generations, boys and girls to be the best version of themselves. Welcome Cristiano to your new home Al-Nassr FC.”

The contract that Ronaldo has signed is expected to keep him at the club for the next seven years. That said, the playing part of that deal is two-and-a-half years, ending in 2025, when he will be 40 years old, although the plan is that he is then installed as a sports adviser.

It’s worth noting that Al-Nassr appear confident that, despite rumours of a further move, maybe to the MLS, Ronaldo will indeed end his career with them.

How much is Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr contract worth?

The contract will see Ronaldo pick up a cool $200 million per year of his playing contract in Riyadh. His spell in Saudi Pro League football began with his non-scoring debut in a 1-0 victory over Ettifaq. That came after his friendly match against old foe Messi, starring for Paris Saint-Germain.
