Just a few weeks ago, we witnessed Tigres clinching the title in the Clausura 2023 tournament. Rather than anticipating a long period without any activity in the First Division, the schedule for the Apertura 2023 was announced on Wednesday. The Mexican championship will kick off on Friday, June 30 at the Azteca Stadium, with América hosting FC Juárez at 7:00 p.m. On the same day, Xolos will play against Pumas at home (9:00 p.m.), and Mazatlán will face Pachuca (9:00 p.m.).

The 2023 Apertura will feature two double matchdays. Additionally, following the third matchday, there will be a month-long break as all 18 Mexican teams will participate in the Leagues Cup against clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS).

When does the Tigres debut?

The Tigres, current Mexican champions, will make their debut on July 1 against Puebla at the Estadio Universitario in Nuevo León at 7:00 p.m. The rematch of the final between the UANL team and Chivas will be on Saturday, October 28 at the Akron Stadium.

On what date will the Clásicos be played?

The games considered the Clásicos of the Liga MX will arrive after the break for the Leagues Cup, the first of which will be the Clásico Joven between Cruz Azul and América, which will be played on Saturday, September 2 at the Estadio Aztec.

  • Clásico Joven (Cruz Azul vs América) - Matchday 7, September 2 at the Azteca Stadium
  • Clásico Nacional (América vs Chivas) - Matchday 8, September 16 at the Azteca Stadium
  • Clásico Regio (Tigres vs Rayados) - Matchday 9, September 23 at the University Stadium of Nuevo León

When does the Apertura 2023 end?

The final matchday of the Apertura 2023 tournament will take place between Friday 10 and Sunday 12 November. The concluding match of the regular phase will be Tijuana versus Pachuca at 9:00 p.m., held at the Caliente Stadium on the Sunday.

Liga MX will introduce a new format in the Final Phase, commencing on November 22. The first leg of the 2023 Apertura Final is scheduled to be held on either December 14 or 27. The return leg could take place on either December 17 or 30, depending on whether Club León qualifies for the title showdown. Its participation in the Club World Cup at the end of the year may influence the scheduling.
