A new look Real Madrid, a continued Barcelona evolution, and three new clubs aiming to impress, but when are the games?

Much of the global attention when the Spanish domestic league fixtures are announced goes to the two giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona. How does the LaLiga fixtures announcement work?

Since the 2019/20 season, the LaLiga calendar has followed an asymmetric structure, meaning that the order of matchday fixtures in the first half of the season differs from the second half.

As LaLiga explains, to ensure a comprehensive approach, various factors such as security, European competitions, club needs, ongoing construction projects, national and regional holidays, and the optimization of stadium attendance and television viewership are taken into account through the asymmetrical LaLiga calendar. This process generates an impressive number of 99,999 calendar permutations, among which one is selected through a draw.

The premier division of LaLiga, which will adopt a new official name on 3 July due to a change in title sponsorship, consists of 38 matchdays and a total of 380 matches.
