When will Kylian Mbappé officially join Real Madrid?

Mbappé wants to announce his departure from PSG before 28 May, but Real Madrid will not make the signing official before the Champions League final.

Kylian Mbappé will play his last match at the Parc des Princes for PSG against Metz on Saturday, after which he could announce that he is leaving the club. The official announcement of his move to Real Madrid will take a longer. Madrid do not want any interferences ahead of the Champions League final against Liverpool on Saturday 28 May.

Mbappé's intention is to announce the end of his time with PSG before heading off on international duty with France for the UEFA Nations League qualifiers. He also recently admitted that he feels “a lot of pressure” to reveal the decision on his future, but noted that he must “respect all parties”.

On receiving his Ligue 1 player of the year award on Sunday, Mbappé admitted that his decision was “almost” made on his future. “Some details are missing, but my decision is almost made and I will communicate it soon. France manager Didier Deschamps and his squad will meet at Clairefontaine on the 28th. The idea is for the squad to watch the Champions League final together. In the days before, Mbappé is expected to announce the end of his relationship with PSG, but without yet revealing his next destination, which is going to be Real Madrid.

Madrid to announce signing on 1 July

At the Madrid club offices, the rule is no talk of signings, renewals or departures until the end of the season. The work is done for the Mbappé deal as it is with all the other players who are set to renew or leave. There is no rush to announce anything prematurely and even less so in the club’s most important week of the season, the week of the Champions League final. Madrid will not make the Mbappé announcement official until 1 July, the day after Mbappé's contract with PSG expires.

What really matters at the club is the commitment made by the France international, who has remained totally committed to the Real Madrid plan despite the intensity of the pressure he has been under. The Emir of Qatar, who begins a two-day state visit to Spain on Tuesday, asked French President Macron and former President Sarkozy to help convince the player not to leave Arab-owned PSG until at least after the 2022 World Cup. Mbappé has, however, remained firm in his idea of playing for Real Madrid.

Regarding Mbappé's contract at Madrid, there is talk of a deal between four and six seasons and a salary of between €40 and €60 million per year, however, no details have been confirmed by the parties involved. Mbappé is set to be the highest paid player in the history of Real Madrid.
