CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Where and when is the 2022/23 Champions League final?
The Champions League sorts out 32 teams from the group stage into just a battle between two: Manchester City and Inter are left standing.
Are you ready for the biggest show in the footballing town? That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, it’s almost time for Manchester City vs Inter Milan in the 2022-23 Champions League final.
The English champions -- looking for a treble after already securing the Premier League and FA Cup in England -- took last year’s winners Real Madrid apart in the second leg of the semi-final at the City of Manchester Stadium. 24 hours earlier, Inter had finished the job against city rivals AC Milan, winning 3-0 on aggregate in a tie which was only ever going to end one way.
This was clearly always going to be a different soccer season in Europe, as the World Cup in Qatar took place in the middle of it, in November and December, which put a halt to both the domestic European leagues and the Champions League, but the road to winning the biggest club tournament has almost been traversed, and preparations have been concluded for the showpiece final.
When and where will the Champions League final take place in 2023?
The date you need to mark on your calendar is Saturday, June 10, 2023. The time of match is 3 p.m. ET / 12 noon PT.
The match will take place in Turkey, at the Istanbul Atatürk Olympic Stadium in the city of the same name, a venue that holds 76,761 fans and was built between 1999 and 2002.
Istanbul: a stadium with UCL history
The 2023 final will mark the second time that the Istanbul Atatürk Olympic Stadium hosts the biggest soccer club match in the world after it did so in 2005′s epic comeback by Liverpool against AC Milan. The Reds were down 3-0 at halftime but came back to level the game and finally take the win away from the Italians in a spectacular penalty shoot out.
If we are treated to similar levels of intrigue and excitement it’s going to be a good one.
Where will the subsequent Champions League finals take place?
After this season sees a team crowned in Istanbul, the Champions League will take its biggest match to London, with the eighth Wembley final taking place in 2024, and to Munich’s Allianz Arena in 2025.
