Update:

The Euro 2025 final on Sunday is a repeat of the 2023 Women’s World Cup showdown – but with even more at stake. Spain, already world and Nations League champions, can complete a historic treble. Standing in their way: England, the reigning European title holders, determined not to give it up easily.

Spain favorites for Euro 2025 title

Spain have generally looked the part in Switzerland. Four straight wins in the group, 14 goals scored, and control in all areas of the pitch. Even when Germany tested them in the semifinal, it was the class of Aitana Bonmatí that broke through. With Bonmatí, Putellas and Guijarro in midfield, and a growing list of attacking options, Spain now have both depth and dominance.

England’s route has been less convincing. A shock defeat to France exposed some fragility, and they barely survived against Sweden and Italy. But this is Sarina Wiegman’s fifth straight major final as a coach, and England have history against Spain – they beat them in February’s Nations League match by giving up possession and taking their chance.

In the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, released June 12, Spain climbed to second after a near-perfect window. England, however, dropped from third to fifth, with Brazil and Germany leapfrogging them.

Who is top women’s national soccer team?

And the top spot? Still held, for now, by the United States, despite a small point loss. But with Spain closing in fast and a European title on the horizon, that position is more fragile than it’s been in years.

Here’s the current FIFA Women’s World Ranking top ten, as of June 12, 2025:

  1. USA – 2057.19 points
  2. Spain – 2034.34 points
  3. Germany – 2030.88 points
  4. Brazil – 2004.31 points
  5. England – 1999.78 points
  6. Sweden – 1989.21 points
  7. Japan – 1982.51 points
  8. Canada – 1974.46 points
  9. Korea DPR – 1944.23 points
  10. France – 1941.61 points

The next update is on August 7.
