Where do Querétaro stand among the teams with the worst record in the Liga MX quotient table?
During the past decade, the now-extinct Veracruz has the worst record in terms of difference in points in the lower end of the Liga MX standings - even Chivas came close to relegation.
We are in the final stretch of the Clausura 2023, with teams making their respective calculations to find out if they will enter the Liguilla directly or secure a miraculous route via the playoffs. Last weekend, it emerged that Querétaro have no chance of progressing further in the tournament because they occupy last place in the quotient table with two games of the regular season left to play.
In the general table, with two games to go, Querétaro are 13th - which gives the impression that the Gallos Blancos still have a mathematical chance of sneaking into the playoffs. However, looking at the percentage criteria following Sunday’s 0-0 draw against Tigres, Mauro Gerk’s team have descended into the last three places of the quotient table with no chance of escaping and as a result will be hit with an economic fine.
In the last decade, various teams have presented poor numbers in the quotient table - the most notable being the now-defunct Veracruz, who finished with the worst difference in the Clausura 2019 and ended up with the worst figures on five occasions.
In the Clausura 2015, Chivas found themselves in the most critical situation in recent history - despite finishing fifth in the general table, they were at risk of losing their top tier status along with teams like Puebla and Querétaro.
