TRANSFER MARKET
Which players in Europe have just 6 months remaining on their contracts? Mbappé, Modric, Davies...
The January transfer window is open, meaning that various players across Europe have just 6 months left on their current contracts.
The change of year will mean a change of team for many players. With the arrival of 2024, many players will finish their contracts in June, meaning they will be able to freely negotiate a contract with another club if they wish.
No club has the power to stop a player with 6 months remaining on their deal from negotiating with another team. Even if the transfer does not happen until July 1, they can sign for whoever they like.
The turn of the year also means many other players will be entering their final year of their contract in the summer, so they are much cheaper to sign than they would otherwise be.
Madrid’s Mbappé saga rumbles on
As of January 1, there will be some very prominent players who can swap teams without a transfer fee being a necessity. As you may have guessed, the main man in that respect is Kylian Mbappé. The Frenchman can go ‘for free’ without having to negotiate with his current club, PSG.
‘Free’, however, is not quite true: any signing bonus that the player’s entourage would ask for would be huge. As such, this potential deal will once again be the soap opera of the year...
Everything indicates that again Real Madrid will try to sign the forward, but as AS already revealed on December 6, their pursuit comes with a deadline: January 15. Madrid do not want the same thing to happen as in 2022 and if the Frenchman wants to play in white, he will have to sign a contract before that date; if not, Ancelotti’s team will look for other options to strengthen their squad.
Which LaLiga players’ contracts run out in summer 2024?
Mbappé is not the only star who will be free in 2024. According to Transfermartk, the most valuable players who can be signed for free this summer will be Rabiot, Tomas Soucek and Zielinski. Others, like Varane, are also out of contract.
At Real Madrid there are four players who have just 6 months left: Modric, Kroos, Nacho and Lucas. At the moment none of them have signed a new contract, with the German the one who has the biggest chances of staying in Spain’s capital.
At Atlético de Madrid, Mario Hermoso will put an end to his time in red and white if the two sides do not reach an agreement - and he is not the only one: Koke, Savic, Witsel or Azpilicueta also finish up their contracts.
Which Barcelona players could leave in summer?
For Barcelona, Sergi Roberto and Marcos Alonso may also be able to leave for free. There is Guido Rodríguez at Betis; Berenguer, Guruzeta and Muniain at Athletic; Jesús Navas and Óliver Torres at Sevilla; Dimitrievski at Rayo and Parejo at Villarreal who all finish their contracts this season in LaLiga EA Sports.
There are also plenty of bargains who finish their contracts next year, in time for the summer market. Many teams will try to pick them up sooner for a lower price, as it will be the last chance for the selling clubs to squeeze out money for them if they have no intention of renewing a deal.
The most prominent player in this respect is Alphonso Davies. The Bayern left-back will enter the final year of his contract and Madrid are keen to sign the player. The club consider him a strategic signing, meaning they will do everything in their power to try to sign him. Bayern, however, have the upper hand in this respect, as it is not only Davies who will be entering the final year of his contract. Sané and Kimmich will also be in the same situation, so expect a busy year in Bavaria.
Which players have one year left on their contracts?
There are plenty of big name players who are a year away from the end of their contracts that come from the Premier League: De Bruyne, Son, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah, will be the most sought-after names on the market in England. In the Spanish league, Mikel Merino, Unai Simón, Ferland Mendy, Carvajal, Gündogan (he has an optional year), Íñigo Martínez, En-Nesyri, Depay and Aspas will be in the same situation. 2024 could bring many teams bargains - let’s wait and see.
