Paris Saint-Germain’s victory against Marseille was perfect in terms of the result, but it had consequences due to what happened in the stands at Parc des Princes. As is customary, the players went to the Virage Auteuil section to celebrate the triumph with the ultras, where insults against Marseille were exchanged, along with homophobic chants during the match, which are now under investigation by the LFP and could lead to various sanctions being imposed.

PSG players at risk

The Discipline Commission of the LFP announced on Wednesday that it summons Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf, and Kurzawa to explain the events in the stands and the insults directed at Olympique de Marseille. One day after the match against Newcastle in the Champions League on 5 October, the four PSG players will appear to provide their version of the events and attempt to avoid potential sanctions.

In addition to the uttered insults, the Discipline Commission will also review the homophobic chants that occurred at Parc des Princes during Le Classique against Marseille. The Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, expressed her concern this week regarding the seriousness of the incidents. If the individuals involved are identified, they may be subject to various penalties, including the possibility of being banned from entering Parc des Princes for a specified period.

According to Le Parisien, authorities issued over 200 sanctions classified as homophobic throughout the past season, resulting in 61 precautionary measures, 34 fines, and ultimately, the closure of a stand within French football. The four PSG players summoned, Kolo Muani, Dembélé, Achraf, and Kurzawa, also face the risk of a one-match suspension. Within the existing legal precedent in France is the case of Taiye Taiwo, a player from Marseille, who in 2011, after a victory against Montpellier, made an improper remark against PSG, leading to a one-match suspension imposed by the LFP.
