EURO 2024
Which teams have already qualified for Euro 2024?
Nine countries, including England, France and Spain, have booked their places at the tournament in Germany. Another 12 will join them in November.
With less than a year to go before it all kicks off, the opening game scheduled for 14 June 2024, the upcoming European Championships to be held in Germany already has nine of the 24 participating teams, with the remaining nations set to be determined over the next week or next March.
The first of these nine is the German national team, which secured its spot as the host nation in 2018 and will be vying for a fourth European Championships title, following victories in 1972, 1980, and 1996.
Joining the host nation, eight teams secured their spots during the October international break. 12 more will follow in November, with the three remaining spots to be decided by the play-offs in March.

Les Blues stroll
France, where Didier Deschamps has once again assembled a generation with ample credentials, with Kylian Mbappé and Antoine Griezmann as the leading figures, will once again be one of the favorites to dethrone Italy, going one better than second place in Qatar in the World Cup. They have dominated Group B with an iron fist, winning their first six matches to qualify with two matches to spare. In the process, they have scored thirteen goals while conceding only one.

Portugal grow again
Even more impressive has been the path to Germany for the new Portugal being steered along by Roberto Martínez. The Spanish manager, who took over from Fernando Santos in January, has seen a dominating force qualify across an almost flawless journey: eight victories out of eight and a goal difference of +30, with qualification secured after their seventh game. With nearly two top-class players for each position, an unprecedented emerging talent pool, and an iconic leader who just keeps going. Cristiano Ronaldo knows that this could be the last big tournament to contribute to the national cause.

A newish set of Red Devils
Belgium also secured their spot in the upcoming summer’s European tournament. Domenico Tedesco is currently overseeing a successful transition from that golden generation that ended without a trophy. The Red Devils, now led by Lukaku on the pitch, with Doku and Lukebakio as key players and the likes of Debast and Vermeer spearheading the young revolution, have dominated their qualifying group, Group F, with a single draw against Austria the only blot so far, and a goal difference of +13. Of course, their home fixture against Sweden was postponed at half time and completely overshadowed by the terrorist attack in Brussels which saw two Swedish fans killed. Belgium’s challenge remains to translate their brilliance in the earlier stages into success in the finals – an eternal promise.
Austria make it three on the bounce
Belgium secured qualification thanks to a victory in Vienna in October, which Austria would have done themselves had they ended up on the winning side instead. Ralf Rangnick’s team didn’t have to wait too much longer to book their trip to Germany, however, with their 1-0 triumph in Azerbaijan a few days later ensuring a top-two finish in Group F and a third consecutive Euros appearance.

La Roja and the Tartan Army
With their 1-0 away victory in Oslo against Norway, Spain secured their direct ticket to the next European Championships. Furthermore, La Roja boasts the second-best goal difference across the groups with a +16. The Spanish victory had the knock-on effect of securing Scotland’s qualification, who had a rest in the second October matchday, but had a perfect record other than the most recent loss in Sevilla.
Turkish delight
Turkey booked their places at the finals thanks to a 4-0 win over Latvia. Although Croatia and Wales could also join them on 16 points in Group D, the Turks would finish second a three-way head-to-head tiebreaker, which guarantees a top-two finish.
England desperate to go one better
Gareth Southgate’s side, who were runners-up to Italy at Euro 2020 (played in 2021), were the last nation to qualify during the October break after coming from behind to beat the Italians at Wembley. England have dropped just two points in qualification and will go into their final two games looking to ensure top spot in Group C.

Euro 2024: a summary of how the groups stand
Group A
With Spain and Scotland already qualified, all that remains to be seen is which of the two will be the group leader.
Group B
France are there. Meanwhile, the Netherlands and Greece both have 12 points, but the Dutch have two matches left to play, against the Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar, while the Greeks must host the French in their only game remaining. Advantage Ronald Koeman and Co.
Group C
With England already assured of a top-two finish, Ukraine and Italy will battle it out for the second qualification spot. The Italians (10 points) host North Macedonia before travelling to Leverkusen to face the Ukrainians (13 points) in what is likely to be a final-game decider. Should the teams finish level on points, reigning European champions Italy will qualify by virtue of their superior head-to-head record.
Group D
Turkey has already secured their place in the list of qualifiers. Wales have jumped ahead of Croatia, who have lost their last two games, with two games left for both to play. Luka Modric and his mates travel to Latvia then host Armenia, while the Welsh visit the Armenians before playing the Turks at home. Croatia must outscore Wales points-wise to be able to qualify.
Group E
Estonia is the only team no longer able to qualify in a highly competitive group where up to four teams are vying for the top two spots: Albania, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Moldova.
Group F
Belgium secured their qualification in Austria, with David Alaba’s team following suit three days later in Azerbaijan. The group winner is the only thing that has yet to be decided.
Group G
Hungary and Serbia have a clear path to qualification, with Montenegro the only team that can stop either of them in Group H. They have some serious catching up to do, however, which means it’s unlikely.
Group H
Slovenia and Denmark are on course to qualify. Kazakhstan have to win both of their remaining fixtures and hope at least one of the two teams above them slip up badly.
Group I
The two spots appear to be heading to two of Switzerland, Romania and Israel. However, the cancellation of the Israeli national team’s matches against the Swiss and Kosovo due to the Israel-Hamas conflict means there are still a number of fixtures outstanding.
Group J
Portugal’s dominant performance under Roberto Martínez left no chance for their rivals. Slovakia look almost certain to take second spot ahead of Luxembourg and Iceland.
