Kylian Mbappé's 25th birthday could not have gone any better. Against Metz, on the last day of the first half of the Ligue 1 season, the French striker scored a brace and looked back to his best. To top it off, as a finishing touch, his 16-year-old brother Ethan made his professional debut after Luis Enrique brought him on in stoppage time.

Under the watchful eye of his parents, Fayza Lamari and Wilfried Mbappé, who made no secret of their excitement, the Parc des Princes celebrated the first match of a player who, despite his surname, is breaking barriers in the PSG youth academy.

At just 15-years-old, the younger Mbappé sibling burst into the Youth League as a rising star. He is, unlike Kylian, a midfielder, as well as being left-footed. A player with a lot of technical quality, he gradually established himself in the PSG youth team, to the point of having been an undisputed starter this season in the youth Champions League.

‘He has a prestigious surname, which is difficult to live up to’

In December 2022, with Galtier on the bench, Ethan Mbappé began alternating between the first team and the PSG youth team. He coincided with his brother Kylian, who at the time had signed his renewal until 2024 before sending a letter to the executives, notifying them of his intention not to extend his deal until 2025. Like his brother, the younger Mbappé signed a contract in 2021 that tied him to PSG until 2024.

Ethan is a very interesting player who can play in several positions. I am sure he will play again. He has a prestigious surname, which is difficult to live up to...”, declared Luis Enrique at a press conference after being asked about the player’s debut at the age of 16. The match against Metz will remain a key moment for the Mbappé family, both for the debut of the young midfielder, and at the time when it took place, Kylian’s birthday.

Ethan Mbappé had already made his first team debut

In the summer, Ethan Mbappé had already made his debut in a PSG shirt, but not in an official match. In the first match of pre-season, which ended 2-0 for the Parisians against Le Havre, he coincided with Kylian on the pitch. The French national team captain scored the last goal of the match before, hours later, learning that the club was leaving for Japan without him.

On the Asian tour, Ethan trained with the rest of the first team and also saw minutes on the pitch before returning to the youth team to play in the Champions League. Last Sunday, in Lille, Luis Enrique called him up, although he was not given minutes. It had to be on the birthday of Kylian Mbappé, PSG legend, the club’s all-time leading scorer, the day on which he made his first official appearance. What is certain is that it will certainly not be the last as he starts off on a promising career, whether in Paris or not.
