Who is Marco Ortiz, the referee for the Toluca vs Pachuca Liga MX final?
The 34-year-old will oversee the first leg of the 2022 Liga MX Apertura final as Toluca face Pachuca at the Estadio Nemesio Diez.
Marco Antonio Ortiz has been assigned to officiate Thursday’s Liga MX Apertura (first-leg) final as Toluca face Pachuca and is one of the youngest referees currently active in Liga MX.
Head of the local refereeing committee Armando Archundia has selected, for many, one of the nation’s finest match officials and this will be Ortiz’s second consecutive final. Nicknamed ‘El Gato’ (the cat), he took charge of the Clausura 2022 first-leg duel where Atlas beat Pachuca 2-0 at the Jalisco stadium.
Ortiz, who has been an official FIFA referee since 2018 and has overseen 18 league matches, including repechajes, quarterfinals, semifinals with Thursday’s final set to be his 19th run out this season.
His last game in charge was last week’s semi-final (first-leg) clash, also at the Nemesio Diez stadium where Toluca surprised high-flying Club America 2-1.
