Who Liverpool could sign if they fail to land Jude Bellingham
The English side want to sign World Cup winner Enzo Fernández and Sofyan Amrabat to strengthen their midfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side are desperate to strengthen their midfield over the coming months. The Premier League outfit want to make a change in midfield if they are to challenge Manchester City for the title this season.
The number one target for the engine room at Anfield was England international Jude Bellingham, but the Borussia Dortmund star could end up signing for reigning Champions League winners Real Madrid. Liverpool are now looking across Europe for other options.
The first and most expensive is Enzo Fernández. Reports in England suggest that the player and the club have already reached an agreement on personal terms, but now they have to come to an agreement with the Argentinian player’s club, Benfica. According to Portuguese outlet Record, the Lisbon side have already rejected an offer of €100 million and want to receive his €120 million.
The second in possible signing is another of most outstanding midfielders at the 2022 World Cup, Sofyan Amrabat. The Moroccan plays in Serie A with Fiorentina and would be a much more affordable signing than World Cup winner Fernández. According to the Daily Express, Liverpool are considering making an initial bid in the January transfer window for around €40 million. Amrabat’s contract expires in 2024 and Fiorentina will consider selling if an offer of around €50 million comes in for the holding midfielder.
Carragher calls for investment
Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher believes the Premier League outfit need serious investment to return to the top of English football. “There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp has told Liverpool’s owners that they need between €230-280 million to spend in the summer. That sounds like an outrageous figure, but that’s what United and Chelsea spent last summer. These are the figures that rivals are spending. I think he needs that now. I don’t think FSG have those funds at the moment and I think that’s why they are looking for investment to help them,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
