Both France and England had little difficulty in their Round of 16 tests at the 2022 World Cup as France acruised past Poland on Sunday. Les Bleus will now meet England in the next round after they comfortably beat Senegal 3-0 in the later game.

Olivier Giroud became France’s all-time top scorer when he opened the scoring with a fine finish after a through-ball from Kylian Mbappé.

It was goal number 52 for the 36-year-old in a France shirt, and he moved ahead of Thierry Henry on 51 goals.

Mbappé brace

Mbappé then doubled the lead with a brilliant strike beyond Wojciech Szczesny after some nice play between Giroud and Ousmane Dembélé.

The France forward bagged a brace soon after, with a curling effort into the top corner to put the game to bed in stoppage time.

Lewandowski scores from the spot

After missing his first penalty in the dying minutes, Robert Lewandowski got the chance to re-take his poor effort after Hugo Lloris came off his line.

Lewandowski eventually sent the Tottenham netminder the wrong way to give Poland a consolation and the last-16 clash ended in a 3-1 win for the reigning World Cup champions.
