Update:

Manchester United will feature a different main sponsor on their jerseys in Monday’s Premier League fixture against Brentford, with Snapdragon temporarily replaced by (RED) for one match only.

The switch is part of a campaign to support the global fight against HIV/AIDS.

One-game switch at Old Trafford

United will wear the (RED) logo against Brentford in a move designed to raise awareness and funds for global health initiatives. It is a symbolic change for one game at Old Trafford, with the usual Snapdragon branding set to return afterward.

What (RED) stands for

(RED) was founded in 2006 by U2 frontman Bono and Bobby Shriver, the former mayor of Santa Monica. According to the charity’s website, it “partners with the world’s most iconic brands and people to create products and experiences that raise money, heat, and urgency to fight against global health injustice.”

Money generated by (RED) is donated to the Global Fund, established in 2002 with the goal of “ending the world’s deadliest pandemics,” including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

(RED) has raised more than $800 million for the Global Fund over the past two decades and is estimated to have impacted 350 million lives worldwide.

Previous Manchester United partnership

United previously partnered with (RED) at the end of last season, featuring the charity as their shirt sponsor for a home match against West Ham United in May. It was announced in January that they would repeat the initiative this season, with current sponsor Snapdragon fully supportive of the move.

Snapdragon is a family of system-on-chip processors developed by Qualcomm, the multinational semiconductor and technology company based in San Diego.

Snapdragon and Manchester United are coming together to support the global fight against health injustice by putting the (RED) logo on the front of United’s famous shirt for the second consecutive year,” said the club when announcing the partnership.

“(RED) will appear on the front of Manchester United’s shirt for the men’s match against Brentford on 27 April at Old Trafford and the women’s match against Tottenham Hotspur on 26 April.”

Can I buy a Manchester United (RED) jersey?

Supporters will be able to purchase the limited-edition jersey through the MatchWornShirt auction platform until May 2, with net proceeds donated to (RED) and the Global Fund.
