Barcelona announced on Tuesday that Jordi Cruyff will not renew his contract with the club. In the club’s official statement, they said that the director will not renew his contract with the club at the end of the current season “due to his desire to undertake new professional projects”.

Club president Joan Laporta had previously hinted that this could happen as he “only signs contracts on a season-by-season basis”. Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany will also leave the club this summer.

Regarding Cruyff, Barça said on Tuesday: “Jordi Cruyff has conveyed his commitment to helping the club in the transition to a new structure, offering his maximum collaboration in the closing of pending operations for the summer transfer market”.

Laporta loses another part of his team

Cruyff’s departure will see the club’s management change again after Laporta put together his team when he took over as Barça president just over two years ago. At that time, the coach at Camp Nou was Ronald Koeman.

Current boss Xavi will have to work with a new team going forward, one that will be led by former player Deco.
