Kylian Mbappé made a fine start to life with new club Real Madrid, scoring on his debut as Carlo Ancelotti’s team defeated Atalanta to win the UEFA Super Cup. His first LaLiga appearance against Mallorca didn’t quite go to plan, however, and he still has off-field issues to contend with related to his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

How much money is Mbappé due from PSG and why?

According to French newspaper Le Monde, the France captain has been in touch with the legal committee of the French Professional Football League (LFP) and UEFA, claiming he is due nearly €55 million ($60.94 million) from his former club.

Of that figure, €36 million ($39.88 million) is related to a signing bonus Mbappé was supposed to receive from PSG in February, with the rest pertaining to unpaid wages and additional agreed bonuses for April, May and June, his final three months at the club.

The French champions claim the player agreed to waive part of a bonus he was due to receive as a gesture of goodwill, stemming from PSG not receiving a transfer fee for him leaving. The 25-year-old officially announced on May 10 he would be leaving on a free transfer at the end of last season having decided not to renew his contract.

In June, L’Équipe reported PSG had received a formal notice from Mbappé's legal representatives, but the issue still has not been settled.

Mbappé dispute could cost PSG their Champions League place

If there is any suspicion the Ligue 1 club have acted improperly, Le Monde claims the LFP can stop them from making transfers until the case is resolved and that UEFA could even revoke their licence for this season, which would see them lose their place in the Champions League.
