Will Christian Pulisic play for USA against Netherlands in World Cup last-16 clash?
Pulisic was withdrawn at half-time during the USA’s crucial World Cup win over Iran on Tuesday.
The USA have secured their place in the last 16 of this year’s World Cup thanks to a narrow win over Iran in their final Group B game on Tuesday.
Christian Pulisic scored the all-important goal in the 38th minute, getting to the back post to guide the ball over the line following Sergiño Dest’s right-wing cross. The 24-year-old collided with Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Beiranvand after hitting the back of the net and he was on the ground receiving treatment for a few minutes before slowly getting up and limping off.
Pulisic picks up injury
Pulisic, making his 55th appearance for the USA, continued playing for a few minutes after but was withdrawn at half-time with a reported abdominal injury and was replaced at the start of the second half by the lively Brenden Aaronson.
The Chelsea forward was subsequently taken to hospital for scans and he is now a doubt for Saturday’s last-16 clash with the Netherlands, who topped Group A after beating Qatar 2-0 earlier in the day. Pulisic’s first-half strike was his 22nd for his country and one of the most important of his career to date.
Sargent a doubt
USA forward Josh Sargent is also a doubt for Saturday’s match after being taken off in the second half with a knock.
What time does Netherlands vs USA get underway?
The Netherlands vs USA starts at 10am ET on Saturday 3 December. That’s 7am PT.
