Will Julián Quiñones play for Colombia or Mexico?
AS understands that the Club América player has finally made his decision regarding a national team.
Julián Quiñones decision on his national team representation is keeping both Colombia and Mexico on their toes: but now it seems that he has made a decision.
Over the past days and weeks, much has been said about the forward and where he will play his football at a national level, with the 26-year-old keeping quiet in public about his choice.
However, amidst all the speculation, AS understands that a decision is closer than it may seem.
Julián Quiñones is more than good enough player to play for the Colombian National Team. Although the team already possess huge talent in forward areas such as Rafael Santos Borré, Duván Zapata and Luis Fernando Muriel, none of them are prolific and all are going through a tough moment in front of goal.
Do Colombia want Quiñones to play for the national team?
Now, given this lack of security up front, two names have emerged as potential suitors to solve the problem: Julián Quiñones and Harold Preciado. Rumours had circulated about the player wanting to join the Mexican national team under Jimmy Lozano but it is understood by AS that the former’s priority is to play for the South American side, with the player being open to a call up to the setup for the last two months.
It is also understood that the Colombian Football Federation, FCF, have asked about the potential acceptance or rejection of a call up for the Club América winger and and his interest in playing for the side, as well as the supposed rejection of his native country, something which is understood to be false.
What is Julián Quiñones’ club record?
While it has been suggested that there is no decision either way from the player that has been confirmed, it is expected that Quiñones has indeed decided he will play for Colombia.
Quiñones joined Club América in 2023, leaving Atlas after two years at the club where he played over 70 times, scoring 32 goals in the process. In the most recent edition of Leagues Cup, his current side made it through the first round and beat Chicago Fire in the Round of 32. However, the luck of the draw saw them come up against would-be finalists, Nashville SC, in the Round of 16, where they lost on penalties following a dramatic 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
