Winless Sporting KC creating new MLS records

It’s been a dismal start to the side from Utah as they languish in bottom spot in the West with no wins and just three points in the 2023 MLS season.

Sporting Kansas City have now gone ten games in the 2023 MLS season without a win after they fell this weekend (2-0) to visiting CF Montréal.

Sporting KC have now recorded just three points all season as they languish at the foot of the Western Conference and are breaking new ground for the worst MLS season start of all time. Toronto FC went nine games without a win or draw at the start of the 2012 season before they beat the Philadelphia Union (1-0) in matchday 10.

Longest serving MLS head coach Peter Vermes is aware of the increasing pressure on his position and upon being asked about his future on the SKC bench, he stated: “It’s not for me to make, that decision [about the future]. It’s unfortunate, but it is what it is”.

“We’ve got to find solutions. Obviously it’s a tough situation that we’re in. But the only way to resolve the situation is to keep working towards it.”

Sporting KC’s next test in the 2023 MLS season is a tricky away trip to Washington State as they face Seattle Sounders next Sunday (7 May) as they look to buck their dreadful start to the season.
