Women’s World Cup semi-finals: qualified teams, schedules, matches and when they are played

The four semi-finalists of the 2023 Women’s World Cup Australia/New Zealand are now known: Spain, Sweden, Australia and England are the last teams left in the tournament and will be battling to be crowned world champions.

Jorge Vilda’s Spain were the first to book their place in the Last 4 after beating the Netherlands in extra-time. Salma Paralluelo hit the winner and also played a part in the move that led to the team’s first goal, a penalty converted by Mariona.

A short while later, Sweden clinched their ticket after beating Japan, one of the favourites who had been enjoying an excellent campaign. The Nadeshiko were the only previous World Cup champions left at the quarter final stage. Their exit means that there will be a new champion in this edition in Australia and New Zealand.

Hosts Australia eliminated France after an agonizing penalty shootout. The match ended goalless after extra-time and was settled from the spot, with the shootout going to a 10th kick. England meanwhile complete the semi-final line-up. They secured their place after beating Colombia 1-2. The South Americans took the lead through Leicy Santos. Lauren Hemp and Alessia Russo turned it around for the Lionesses.

When are the 2023 World Cup semi-finals played?

The first semi-final between Spain and Sweden will be played on Tuesday 15 August at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand, kicking off at the local time of 8 p.m. NZST (4 a.m. EDT / 1 a.m. PDT) or 10:00 hours CEST for viewers watching in Spain or Sweden.

The second semi-final between Australia and England will be held on Wednesday 16 August at Accor Stadium (Stadium Australia), Sydney, Australia and will kick off at the local time of 10 p.m. AEST (6 a.m. EDT / 3 a.m. PDT) and for those cheering on the Lionesses in Blighty, 11 a.m BST.
