The game is part of a multi-team, multi-game series of exhibitions being held in the U.S. in the run-up to the World Cup, under the moniker “Road to 26”.

Having finished third in CONMEBOL’s qualifying tournament - ahead of five-time world champions Brazil - Colombia secured one of South America’s six direct tickets to this summer’s World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Captained by Minnesota United veteran James Rodríguez, Los Cafeteros are preparing to make their tournament return, having missed out on Qatar 2022.
After facing Croatia in Orlando, Néstor Lorenzo’s men move on to a “Road to 26” friendly with two-time World Cup winners France, on Sunday in Landover, Maryland.
Croatia, meanwhile, are gearing up for their fourth straight appearance at the World Cup, having finished second and third, respectively, in 2018 and 2022. Zlatko Dalic’s men, who continue to be skippered by 40-year-old midfield maestro Luka Modric, qualified for this year’s finals in convincing fashion: they topped UEFA Group L by a six-point margin, winning seven games out of eight.
Following today’s clash with Colombia, the Croats face Brazil in Orlando on Tuesday, also as part of the “Road to 26” series.
