FIFA to present World Cup championship rings: how much are they worth and what are they made of?
After Sunday’s World Cup final, FIFA is set to award championship rings to the tournament winners, in a nod to North American sports culture.
FIFA is to tip its cap to North American sports culture by awarding 30 exclusive World Cup championship rings to the winning team. The highly coveted piece of jewelry, a staple of U.S. sports tradition and a customary prize for champions in the NBA, NFL, NHL and MLB, will serve as the ultimate finishing touch to soccer’s biggest celebration across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The governing body led by Gianni Infantino has designed a one-of-a-kind ring that will be presented to the members of either Spain or Argentina following Sunday’s final at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium. Production will be strictly limited, with only 2,026 rings being made. Thirty will go to the winners, while the remaining 1,996 rings will be available for purchase by fans around the world.
It will mark the first time in World Cup history that a championship ring is awarded to the winners. The design has been kept under wraps until now, as FIFA has never made a gesture of this kind before. One side of the ring proudly features the World Cup trophy, while the other will be customized to reflect the identity of the champion, either Spain or Argentina. Each ring will be individually numbered, custom-fitted, and delivered with its own certificate of authenticity.
Immediately after the final, the winning team’s captain and head coach will receive provisional rings to commemorate the achievement. Each of the 30 championship rings will then be personalized ahead of its official presentation at a later date, ensuring a lasting memento of a triumph that will live on forever.
How much will each World Cup championship ring be worth?
It’s difficult to predict the exact value of the rings, as every championship ring is unique. The images released by FIFA suggest they are crafted from yellow gold, although white gold has been used for championship rings in other sports. The gold content could range from 14 to 18 karats, though FIFA has not disclosed precise specifications.
In addition, photographs provided by FIFA indicate that the rings feature a variety of precious stones that significantly increase their value. Championship rings become even more valuable when set with diamonds or other gemstones, such as rubies and sapphires, which is standard practice for rings awarded to champions in major North American sports.
The estimated value of each ring could reach around $150,000. That would place them in a similar range to the championship rings awarded to NBA title winners, although values can vary considerably depending on the number and quality of the gemstones used. Their worth may also depend on whether FIFA only presents championship rings at the 2026 tournament. If this were the case, its rarity could significantly increase its value.
