“Jude Bellingham” station? South London stop keeps new name after England win

A South London railway station has been temporarily renamed in honor of Jude Bellingham following his standout performance for England at the World Cup, and the tribute is proving so popular that it is sticking around longer than planned.

From Bellingham to Bellingham

Located in Catford, within the borough of Lewisham, Bellingham station was rebranded as “Jude Bellingham” by Thameslink ahead of England’s Round of 16 clash with Mexico. The move was initially intended as a one-day show of support for the midfielder, who has emerged as one of the tournament’s standout players.

However, following England’s dramatic 3-2 victory, in which Bellingham played a decisive role, railway officials confirmed the renamed signage would remain in place for several more days. The extension means fans traveling through the station will continue to see the tribute during England’s quarter-final clash against Norway.

In a statement, Thameslink described the gesture as “a salute from South London to one of England’s stars”, reflecting both Bellingham’s growing influence on the international stage and the capital’s deep connection to the national team.

Although Bellingham himself is not from South London, the area has long been a production line for elite talent. Current England internationals such as Marc Guéhi, Eberechi Eze, Trevoh Chalobah and Declan Rice all have strong ties to the region, further strengthening the symbolic link between local communities and the national side.

The decision to extend the station’s temporary name change was also driven by fan reaction. Supporters on social media quickly embraced the idea, with many calling for the tribute to remain in place beyond its original timeframe after Bellingham’s game-winning display.

Still only in his early 20s, Bellingham has rapidly become the face of England’s new generation, combining leadership, composure and attacking quality. His performance against Mexico, where he scored twice, has only reinforced his status as one of the tournament’s defining players.

The “Jude Bellingham” station name serves as both a light-hearted gesture and a reflection of the excitement building around England’s World Cup campaign.
