Kane called for diving as England plead for penalty against DR Congo
England play DR Congo in the Round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup.

Just after DRC’s Wissa hit the post and missed the chance to put his side 2-0 up, England moved the ball swiftly up the other end of the pitch for Kane to run through on the inside-right channel.
Keeper Mpasi was quick out, but the England striker managed to knock the ball past him and then went down over the top of the keeper. There was minimal contact.
Kane frantically claimed for a penalty, but the referee catching up to the action waved play on, before indicating with his hand that Kane had dived.

Did VAR check Kane’s potential penalty against DRC?
VAR had a review of the possible penalty, but concluded that Kane had manufactured the situation. No penalty.
Kane was not booked despite the referee’s indication that he thought Kane had dived.
The teams went in at half-time with DRC leading 1-0 through Cipenga’s seventh minute goal.
