What did Lionel Messi say after Argentina’s comeback win over Egypt?
The Argentina superstar spoke in the mixed zone after his team’s historic comeback against Egypt. Enzo Fernández also joined in the celebrations: “We’re still alive. This is Argentina.”
Against Egypt, Messi once again proved why he is a legendary figure. The Argentina captain, who missed a penalty in the 21st minute with his team trailing, redeemed himself with an assist that gave an entire nation hope and a goal that changed the course of the match, paving the way for a comeback that had seemed impossible.
After Argentina secured its place in the quarterfinals, Messi shared his thoughts in the mixed zone.
“We’re happy to have made it through and with the way we did it. Things got really difficult when it went to 2-0. It was incredibly emotional to come back again. We suffered a lot once more, but this is the World Cup and every game is so evenly matched.”
With a broad smile on his face, Messi reflected on the match and praised his teammates.
“It was a relief for all of us because of the way the game unfolded. It’s never easy to come back from 2-0 down, but this group never gives up. We were fortunate to get Cuti’s goal quickly, and that gave us enough time. What this team did today was incredible. I’m so happy the fans can keep enjoying this journey and what we’re doing.”

Enzo Fernández was another of Argentina’s heroes in Atlanta. The midfielder completed the comeback with a perfectly timed run into the box and a trademark finish after a pinpoint cross.
“I’ve been dreaming of a goal like that for three years, ever since Qatar. This time, it finally came in the last minute.”
A player who has repeatedly delivered in Argentina’s biggest matches, Fernández became a fixture in the team during the last World Cup and has further established himself as one of the stars of this tournament.
“I thank God for giving me the strength,” said the Chelsea midfielder, before ending with a defiant message: “We’re still alive. This is Argentina.”
