What did Julián Álvarez say about Lionel Messi after Argentina’s comeback win over Egypt?
Julián Álvarez spoke to the media after Argentina’s epic victory over Egypt, which secured a place in the World Cup quarterfinals.

He was the surprise inclusion in the starting lineup and ended up playing the full 90 minutes. Julián Álvarez experienced Argentina’s dramatic comeback against Egypt from the field, looking to make the most of the opportunity Lionel Scaloni gave him as a starter. Although he was unable to find the net, he came close with a clear chance that was brilliantly saved by Shobeir.
Speaking after the match, the Argentina forward expressed his delight at reaching the quarterfinals following a victory that, as Scaloni had predicted, showcased the team’s determination and fighting spirit.
On the comeback
“We’re very happy. The way we came back to win this game makes it one of the biggest, or one of the best, matches the national team has played in recent years, especially considering the stage of the tournament.”
On the fans’ support
“Thanks to everyone who was here today and to those cheering us on from home. We feel their love and support, and it’s incredibly important to us. We felt like we were playing at home here. We’re always going to leave everything on the field, just like we did today. We try to represent them in the best possible way.”
On Argentina’s ability to adapt
“I think we’re a team that can adapt to anything. Every one of us leaves everything out on the field. We showed our character today. The heart of Argentinians keeps pushing us forward, and we give everything until the very end. Going down 2-0 was a huge blow. There wasn’t much time left, but we always find something extra by fighting until the final whistle. In every World Cup game we’ve scored a lot of goals, and many of them have come late.”
On his own form
“Personally, I feel great. I’m at 100 percent. I played the full 90 minutes and felt really good. I always try to help the team in any way I can.”
On Messi’s World Cup
“There really aren’t many words to describe Leo. The World Cup he’s having is incredible. We try to help him, support him, and be there for him. We’re grateful for everything he does for us and for the kind of person he is with us. He’s a legend, the best player in the world, the best in history.”
