Why isn’t Pedri playing for Spain against Belgium in the World Cup quarterfinal?
The Barcelona midfielder was left on the bench for the game, replaced by Fabián.
Fans were in shock as the Spain team news filtered through as Pedri was left on the bench for the World Cup quarter-final against Belgium.
There is no issue with his fitness, the decision has been made purely on the fact that the Barcelona player has not been at his best at the tournament and Fabián, of PSG, made a huge impact coming off the bench in the previous round against Portugal, which Spain won 1-0.
While the exclusion will come as a huge surprise to everyone, Luis de la Fuente has made it clear all along that he values his entire squad and how every player must be ready to step in or make way for a teammate. Pedri’s inclusion later in the game is heavily expected, but for now, the manager has opted for the Olmo-Rodri-Fabián trio that won Spain the Euros.
