Viral video of boaters dumping trash in ocean causes outrage

A video shows boaters off the South Florida coast dumping several buckets of trash into the ocean, quickly going viral on social media and causing outrage.

Update:

Just as the 2024 Boca Bash (an annual boat party) in Florida was coming to an end, one group took off with their boat out of the Boca Raton Inlet to dump several buckets of garbage straight into the ocean. The act was caught on video by the YouTube account Wavy Boats and has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage and prompting an investigation into the identities of those on the boat.

Boca Bash released a statement, calling the act “egregious” and “completely unacceptable”, and said they’ve now identified the people involved. They did not release the names of the people responsible. “It is irresponsible boaters like this that have zero care for our oceans that give this event a bad reputation,” that statement read.

Florida’s Litter Law states that if someone illegally dumps more than 15 pounds of trash into any waterway, they could be found guilty of a first-degree misdemeanor, which could mean up to a year in jail, a $1,000 fine, and/or a year of probation.
