Why did Aaron Rodgers criticize The Athletic’s article about Zach Wilson?

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers spoke on “The Pat McAfee Show” and gave his uncensored thoughts on an article about Zach Wilson in The Athletic.

An article in The Athletic was published on Tuesday saying that New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson is “reluctant” to step back into the starting quarterback role. Not only that, but it said that Aaron Rodgers tried encouraging him and still he “remained apprehensive due to perceived injury risk”.

Rodgers is calling bulls**t, or rather, “chickensh**””.

On “The Pat McAfee Show”, Rodgers said that the article portrayed Wilson in a bad light and was upset by whomever leaked personal conversations to the media. Rodgers clarified he and Wilson did not speak about the situation, but said that they do speak every day. He defended Wilson as a player and a person.

“It’s basically saying that this kid is quitting on the team and doesn’t want to play and has given the middle finger to the organization,” Rodgers said. “Now listen, I don’t want to speak for him because he’s getting a chance this week to speak and I’m going to let him speak... I think he’s an amazing young man... He’s gone through a lot of s*** in the last three years, and he’s got every right to be frustrated and disappointed about it. I think he’s done a good job of standing up and taking accountability this year when it’s been his part to do it.”
