The New York Jets continue to look for answers at quarterback. After the sagas of Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian, the Jets are eager to finish the 2023 season in the best way possible. After 13 weeks, Robert Saleh’s men have a 4-8 record and it’s looking increasingly difficult that will finish the campaign with a winning record.

Now, the AFC East team are poised to release Boyle, who started the last two games, and sign Brett Rypien from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad, according to Josina Anderson of CBS Sports.

Boyle replaced Wilson in the 32-6 defeat to the Buffalo Bills in Week 11, but after two games as a starter, the Jets decided it was best to part ways. The former Packers, Lions and Bears player accumulated 360 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions during his stay in New York.

Rypien began the season on the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad and after two games in which he replaced injury-hit Matthew Stafford, he was released, but Seattle added him to their practice squad in the second week of November. The Boise State graduate completed 18 of the 38 passes he attempted with the Rams for 172 yards and one interception.

Zach Wilson tipped to return

With these moves, everything indicates that Zach Wilson will be Saleh’s first option at QB for the rest of the season. The Jets finish the year facing the Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots.

With 10 appearances to his name this season, Wilson, the second player drafted in the 2021 Draft has posted mediocre numbers. The BYU graduate accumulated 1,944 yards with six touchdowns and seven interceptions after completing just 59.2 percent of his throws.
