Alex Teixeira goes to Jiangsu Suning for 50 million euros

The Chinese side bought the midfielder from Shakhtar in the biggest ever Asian transfer deal.

Jackson’s record as the most expensive buy ever by a Chinese club (Evergrande paid Atleti 42 million euros on Monday for the striker) didn’t last long - Jiangsu Suning have shelled out 50 million euros for Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeira, signing him from Shakhtar.

Jiangsu Suning, who finished 9th in the Chinese Super League last season, were keen to open their wallets and had already made enquiries about Kakuta (Sevilla), Yaya Touré (City) and Oscar (see Chinese Spending Power, below) and Falcao (Chelsea).

In the end their chosen man is Teixeira, 26, who is valued in Europe at around 30 million euros, and is having his best season yet at Shakhtar, with 26 goals in 26 games, plus five assists. He joined the club in 2009 and has played 223 games, scoring 89 goals and winning five leagues and five Ukranian super cups.

Liverpool were keen on Teixeira, but could do nothing against the spending power of the Chinese side, who have spent 300 million euros in signings with a month still to go before the start of their season.

"The great haul of China", the Sun called it, with a photo of Chelsea's Oscar next to it. According to the British tabloid the English club rejected an offer of 75 million euros from Jiangsu Suning for the player. The 24 year old is expected to have a great future in European football, but according to the Sun, and despite today's signing by the Chinese club, they will try again in the summer to tempt the Brazilian to the far-east.  Jiangsu Suning are also apparently keen to land Yaya Touré. So keen they are willing to give him a 40 million euros a year deal.
