Alves to use China offer to accelerate extension talks

The Brazilian has a lucrative offer from a Chinese Super League team, and hopes this will crystallise Barça's thoughts on prolonging his stay.

Update:
Alves to use China offer to accelerate extension talks

Barcelona full-back Dani Alves has received a big-money offer from an unnamed Chinese Super League club, and AS understands that the Brazilian's intention is to use these overtures to begin exerting pressure on his current employers over the extension of his contract.

Last summer, Alves signed a new Barça deal running until 2017 with the option of a further year, and is hopeful that his Chinese opportunity will serve to crystallise Los Azulgranas' thoughts and ensure that, at the very least, the additional 12 months on his present contract are activated.

The offer Alves has received concerns a switch to the CSL during its current transfer window, which is open until 26 February. But with Luis Enrique's men challenging on three trophy fronts and no signings brought into the Camp Nou in January, it appears impossible that Barça would be willing to see him depart.

In a tearful speech during last season's treble celebrations, Alves - who arrived at Barcelona in 2008 - made it clear that he did not want to leave the Catalans. If he manages to have his stay at Barça extended, he would be in line to reach a decade at the club.
