EL CLÁSICO
Zidane: "Revenge for the 0-4? We now know what happened"
"My players know what happened that day but now we are only thinking about the game to come. Tomorrow's match is another story and we have to win".Real Madrid-Deportivo: LaLiga matchday 20
A relaxed Zinedine Zidane said he is going to enjoy tomorrow's Clásico at Camp Nou but stressed that it's a game his Real Madrid need to win and will be going out to win.
Varane: “It's a problem which we have no control over. He played the second half [with France] with a few twinges and we still don't know exactly what he's got but he can't be with us for tomorrow's game. We ran an ecograph and something showed up now we need to do an MRI scan to get a clearer idea of what it is. He's had two games in a short space of time and this has happened”.
First Clásico as coach: “We are here to win games - we try to win every game. We've prepared well during the whole week; we've been without a few players but there's nothing we can do about that. We will try to win as we always do”.
Is this an examination for Real Madrid? “No. It's a game of football and we're in a good dynamic. It's another game - an important one, and of course this is different but's a game of football which everyone wants to watch and I want to see my team play in the same way they have done in recent weeks”.
Revenge: “No, I haven't spoken to the players in that sense. They know what happened but now we are only thinking about this game. Every game is different and this is another story but revenge… It's a game we need to win and want to win”.
Rotating the team with next week's Champions League in mind: “I'm not going to reveal my team but I won't be rotating the team because for us, tomorrow's game is the most important game we have got right now. One team will go out tomorow and we'll see who plays on Wednesday but we're not thinking about that. We will be rotating the team, as we always do, between now and the end of the season”.
Memories of El Clásico and Luis Enrique: “What are you referring to? These things happen, and now it's all forgotten. For a player, El Clásicos is one of the most beautiful things you can experience. Now I am going to experience it as a coach, my first one, and I'm going to enjoy it”.
James: "He's happy here - happy and committed. But when a player starts thinking that he isn't going to play, it's complicated because every footballer always wants to play...".
A decade on from your last Clásico: “I'll have no problems at all sleeping tonight. I'm completely relaxed and I'll sleep well as I always do. This is a game of football - and I am going to enjoy it”.
