James' total transfer cost, clauses and details revealed
The portal, which has already published details of the Colombian's salary, has now revealed the agreement made between Real Madrid and Monaco.
The portal Football Leaks has exposed a number of documents which affect Real Madrid and Monaco. All of them, relate to Colombia international James Rodríguez.
Little over a month ago, the contract which James signed with Real Madrid was published (pre-tax annual salary of 7 million euros, rising to 7.7 million the following year), and now the agreement made betweem Monaco and Real Madrid for the player as come to light. The contract stipulates the transfer fee for James - 75 million euros.
Both clubs agreed a payment plan: Madrid would made three payments of 25 million euros over three years, one installment per year. The third of which is due in July this year. However, another, separate document which Football Leaks published refers to the third payment which strangely, has been arranged to be paid into a different bank - Macquarie Bank International.
The contract also includes a number of clauses which, when triggered, will increase the total cost of the transfer. One of them states that Monaco will receive one million euros every time that Real Madrid qualify for the Champions League, and if effective during the six years of James' contract with a limit of 5 million euros. Eseentialy it means that if Madrid qualify for the Champions League for six years running, they would not be obliged to pay the sixth and final payment.
An aditional clause refers to the possibility of James ending among the three finalists for the Ballon d'Or in any of the six years during the duration of his time at Madrid; should it happen, Monaco would be in line to receive five million euros, it would be only a one-off payment.
The same applies if James were to win the Ballon d'Or - Monaco would stand to bank a further five million euros.
The final clause states that the total cost of the operation cannot, under any circumstances, exceed 90 million euros, even with all of the bonuses included. The document was signed by José Ángel Sánchez on behalf of Real Madrid, Vadim Vasilyev on behalf of Monaco and the player.
