Min 95 | Incredible! Atletico Madrid have knocked out Barcelona with typical tenacity and superhuman intensity. Two goals for Antoine Griezmann have sentenced the holders to a quarter-final exit.

Min 94 | 1 min to go!

Min 91 | Barça surround the ref apoplectic, but the free-kick stands. Messi's effort whistles wide.

Min 91 | Iniesta hits Gabi's hand with an attempted cross, the ref gives a free outside the box when the contact was clearly inside!

Min 89 | Felipe Luis won it deep and carried the length of the field, beating one here, nutmegging another there, his cross was handled deliberately by Iniesta and Antoine Griezmann put the penalty low to Stegen's left.

Min 88 | GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLL!!!   Griezmann sends Barcelona crashing out of the Champions League!

Min 87 | PENALTY for Atletico!

Min 86 | Desperation stations here, Godín hauls down Sergi Roberto, the free kick pings around the box.. Cleared.

Min 84 | Neymar - Suarez - Oblak. The story of Barcelkona's night.

Min 83 | Piqué flings himself to the floor in the box for very little reason. Shameless.

Min 81 | Atleti still going through as it stands. Barça have ten minutes to rescue this.

Min 76 | Neymar's frustration gets the better of him and he kicks Juanfran right up the arse, lucky to escape with just yellow for that really, Godín didn't like that and gave Barça's no.11 a clip round the ear. His puffy eye has developed into a plump granny-Smith shiner.

Min 74 | Thomas is on for Carrasco, who gets a rousing send-off, Thomas is another young box-to-box ball carrier, fond of a mazy when he gets a chance. He'll have to defend first, Bar´ça heavy-shelling these local fortifications.

Min 73 | Attempts in the first half: Atleti 5 - 3 BarçaAttempts in the second half: Atleti 3 - 7 Barça.

Min 70 | Suarez booked.

Min 70 | Uffff...   Suarez looked certain to score there, Arda's cross favoured the Uruguayan, but his countryman again spoils his party, Suarez lead with his elbow and Godín's eye has swollen up something spectacular.

Min 67 | Chances coming thick and fast for Barcelona now, can Atleti hold on?

Min 66 | Simeone is waving his arms about like an air traffic controller who's made a terrible mistake. The Calderón responds with noise. Lots of it.

Min 66 | Great strength from Suarez as he holds off the close attention of Godín, spins him and cracks it first-time. Oblak again.

Min 64 | Iniesta warps one goalbound, Oblak again behind it. Arda Turan comes on for Rakitic, Sergi Robaerto for Dani Alves, not the Brazilian's best game ever.

Min 61 | With Barça pressing high, Griezmann launches lightning counter, but Stegen is well-positioned with his legs closed.

Min 59 | Uyyyyy... Barça finally fashion something close to clear-cut as they work it to Neymar wide on the right of the box, a goal-saving challenge from captain Gabi keeps Atleti's goal unbreached.

Min 57 | Barça try to push forward, but Atleti have two banks of four INSIDE THEIR OWN BOX!

Min 56 | Barcelona desperately need to score, but Atletico look much more likely to do so.. Arda Turan warms up for the Catalans.

Min 55 | What's happened to Barcelona?

Min 53 | Atleti hit the crossbar! Saúl's looping header has Stegen stranded, but it bounces back off the woodwork.

Min 48 | Is this Barça mini-slump going to cost them a place in the semis? It certainly is if Alves keeps sending his crosses out of reach and out of play like that..  Piqué screams at the sky.

Min 46 | Second half underway, no changes to either sides.

Half-Time musings

Simeone has got his tactics and team selection spot-on here, Saúl and Carrasco have caused chaos in the blaugrana half, and Griezmann is finding the space to slip his marker and make runs into the box, just as he did for the goal. Barça played a strange game from the get-go, stroking the ball around the back when in possession as if running the clock down was a strategy 5 minutes in.

Iniesta has tried, Neymar flitted about, but Messi and Suarez haven't had any joy at all. A different Barcelona will have to come out in the second-half to turn this one around. Still, one goal is all they need, and the current champions can suddenly slip into gear and destroy teams in minutes.

Fascinatingly poised..

Min 46 | Half time: Atletico Madrid 1-0 Barça (2-2 on agg) Atleti go through if it stays like this..

Min 44 | Uff! Could have been two! Barça can't live with Carrasco's pace, he streaks through, his shot is on target but Ter Stegen palms in out centrally, if Saúl had followed in it'd be 2-0, but he didn't, so it's not.

Min 43 | Barça in real trouble here, they're not playing well at all. Neymar hits a long-ranger, right in the top corner, into the welcome grasp of Oblak's hands.

Min 42 | Atletico Madrid 1-0 Barça (2-2 on agg)

Min 39 | A Uruguayan civil war breaks out on foreign soil as Suarez clatters into Godín's knee, the centre-back rolls around like his kneecap has been shattered into a thousand pieces; then he gets up and carries on.

Min 36 | Griezmann heads in Saúl's cross, the Calderón goes crazy..

Min36|GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Min 35 | Iniesta strides forward purposefully, Neymar, Messi trick their way around the box but the return ball is right into Oblak's hands.

Min 32 | Beautiful little back-flick from Iniesta, not so pretty stamp from Godín on his foot. Free kick. Messi territory....   Over.

Min 29 | PENALTY! Screams the Calderón, referee Rizzoli disagrees with their carefully considered opinion. It did look like Piqué may have manhandled the ball inside the penalty box, falling on it to stop Carrasco's advance. Replay inconclusive, referee can's possibly have seen it from his angle.

Min 27 | Felipe and Koke combine nicely down the left, Mascherano there to clean up.

Min 25 | Things as taut, tense and physical as they always are between these two.

Min 22 | Messi had hardly had a touch until he chased speedy Carrasco practically the entire length of the pitch to win the ball back, like that tenacious little terrier in the park that won't leave you alone.

Min 19 | More of the game being played in Atleti's half now as the home side calming their early high-intensity approach.

Min 17 | Godín gives Neymar a good solid Gaelic-football style shoulder into the advertising boards, then ruffles the Brazilian's hair patronisingly, messing up his hair. Neymar doesn't like that.

Min 15 | Augusto loses his patience and clatters Neymar, ouch. No yellow though.

Min 13 | Strange stand-off when Barça have the ball at the back, Atleti refuse to press them and Barça refuse to play it forward, that one goal advantage is in the Catalan side's pocket after all..

Min 10 | Holy crackers Carrasco is fast..  Great cross too, no-one in red-n-white had caught up.

Min 7 | Ufff...   Felipe's cross and a big header from the little man, but Ter Stegen deals with the glancing effort. All Atleti at the mo'.

Min 5 | Barça play it around in their own half, Atleti players conserve some energy, the fans whistle energetically, will they be able to keep up that level of commitment and energy for 90 minutes is the questoin.

Min 3 | Uyyyy...  First clear chance falls to Gabi after some good work from Saúl on the right, he wafts a left foot at it but alas, 'tis high, very high.

Min 2 | Atleti pressing very high up the pitch in the first couple of minutes, expect Barça to dominate possession, and Atleti to counter-punch at every chance.

Min 1 | Off we go!

Ready?

Nerves building, anticipation rising, the song has been sung, team photos taken and we're ready to go!

This is a momentous evening here in Madrid for both sides, a high-stakes, winner-takes-all game where anything can happen on the night.

Can Atleti turn it around? Will Barça score and kill it off, can Messi recover his form? "We still believe in ourselves" said the Argentine.

The colchoneros are turning the volume up at the Calderón, this is the loudest we've heard the stadium this season.

1-0 would put Atletico through, a draw is enough for Barça.

Iniesta vs Saúl

This is Iniesta's 17th Champions League quarter-final match, he'll duel with Saúl Niguez in the centre of that midfield, Iniesta is 31, Niguez 21.

Griezmann vs Messi

Games played: Messi 41 Griezmann 44

Goals scored: Messi 37 Griezmann 27

Assists: Messi 18 Griezmann 6

Teams

Barcelona: 1.Ter Stegen 3. Piqué 4.Rakitic 5.Sergio Busquets 6.Alves 8.Iniesta 9.Suárez 10.Messi 11.Neymar Jr 14.Mascherano 18.Alba

No surprises for the champions, this is the team that started the first leg against Atleti, winning 2-1 at home. Messi likes the Calderón almost as much as he does the Bernabéu, he's scored 10 at the rojiblanco cauldron, second only to Real Madrid's casa blanca where he's got 12.

Atletico Madrid: 13. Oblak; 20. Juanfran, 2. Godín, 19. Lucas, 3. Felipe Luis; 12. Augusto, 14. Gabi, 6. Koke, 17. Saúl Ñiguez, 21. Carrasco, 7. Griezmann

Griezmann, Carrasco's pace and the energy of Saúl will be Atleti's main threats, expect them to close ranks and conduct lightning raids at every opportunity.

Preview

With one of the big three in Spain safely through to the sem-finals, it's now time for either Atlético Madrid or Barcelona to join them. Going on recent history, since Luis Enrique took over the reins at the Catalan club they have a 100% record against Atlético and come to the Calderón with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg thanks to goals from Luis Suarez. Their Uruguayan striker also makes a welcome return to the side after missing out in Anoeta at the weekend. He is almost guaranteed to line-up alongside Messi and Neymar in what will be the strongest eleven possible for Enrique.

Atletico, however, come into the match bouyed by a strong showing in the first-leg (Torres' sending off the turning point in many people's eyes) and a confidence boosting victory in the league at the weekend, unlike their opponents tonight. They will know that, thanks to the away goal, a 1-0 victory will be sufficient to see them advance but with Barça at full strength they are likely to have to score more than one and will be without their thorn-in-Barça's-side, Torres, after that red in the Camp Nou.

As we have seen before, the noise in the Calderón could play a factor and it'll be full to the rafters when the whistle blows tonight. Simeone has said that the home side will look to do some things differently but doesn't believe Barcelona will be intimidated with the partisan crowd. Atlético captain Gabi spoke ahead of the tie saying that this is the moment when they can do something great but emotions need to be kept in check. Pique on the other hand will be looking to keep his positive record going. The Barça central defender has faced Atlético 21 times and is still waiting to taste defeat. In a few hours we'll find out who'll have their name put into a ball for Friday's semi-final draw...
