UEFA have announced that Hawk-Eye will provide the goal-line technology (GLT) at the European Championship in France in June and July.

European football's governing body approved the use of the technology in January and have now chosen Hawk-Eye ahead of three other FIFA-licensed technology providers.

Hawk-Eye (GLT), which deploys seven cameras in each goal, is already used in the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga and Italy's Serie A and was also used by FIFA for last year's women's World Cup in Canada.

It will be used along with the already-existing system of additional assistant referees behind each goal.

"Goal-line technology and additional assistant referees complement each other perfectly," said Pierluigi Collina, the former star official who is now UEFA's chief refereeing officer.

"Now, with GLT focused on the goal line, the additional assistants can focus exclusively on the control of other incidents in the penalty area, the most crucial area of the pitch."

Hawk-Eye will also be used in next season's UEFA Super Cup in Trondheim, Norway and at next season's Champions League from the play-offs onwards.

UEFA added that a decision "will be made at a later stage" about bringing in the technology for the Europa League from the 2017-18 season.
