Divcock Origi will miss the remainder of the season after suffering ligament damage to his right ankle in Wednesday’s Merseyside derby. The forward, who turned 21 only a few days ago, was the victim of a brutal tackle by Everton’s Ramiro Funes Mori and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.

Initial tests run at the Shire Liverpool Hospital yesterday revealed damage to the lateral ligament in his left ankle. Origi is undergoing further tests to determine the exact nature of the injury, and whether any other parts of his ankle have been affected. Such injuries can be complicated to treat and recovery time can be anything between six weeks and three months. At the moment a fracture has been ruled out but Jürgen Klopp refused to go into detail in Friday's press conference, describing Origi's problem as "a serious ligament" injury, which suggests it could be a tear.

Origi will miss both legs of Liverpool’s Europa League semi-final against Villarreal.
