Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo is Paris Saint-Germain's number-one transfer target and, according to reports in France, the Ligue 1 giants have made a degree of headway in their efforts to capture the 31-year-old.

Le Parisien claims that Cristiano's agent, Jorge Mendes, has reached a verbal agreement with PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi which would see the forward make the outfit his priority if he were to leave the Spanish capital.

Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic won't be renewing his contract at PSG, and the Parc des Princes club are on the look-out for a big-name figure to replace him.

CR7 would be the ideal man to take the Paris side closer to their dream of winning the Champions League, and would become the cornerstone around which Les Rouge et Bleu could build the next phase of their first-team project.

And on Tuesday, the publication France Football went as far as to put the Portugal captain in a PSG shirt.

However, the indications are that prising Cristiano away from Madrid remains an impossible dream for PSG.

With conversations underway between Los Blancos and their all-time highest scorer over the renewal of his current deal at the Santiago Bernabéu, which expires in 2018, he appears unlikely to depart.

The plan is to extend his commitment to Los Merengues over the summer, until either 2020 or 2021.

Despite this, PSG's feat of clearing away the competition for Cristiano - should he move on from Real - is being seen as a victory in itself in France.
