Dream season for Suárez: 40 goals and LaLiga winner
The Uruguayan striker is also in line to win the Golden Shoe and his aim is to now win the Copa America 2016 with his national side.
Luis Suárez recently said that none of his goals throughout the season would have any value if Barcelona were left empty handed come the end of the current campaign. In the end his role and strikes were vital in the Catalan side retaining their crown with the Uruguayan striker having possibly his best to date.
After incidents during the Brazil World Cup in 2014 where Suarez was sanctioned after a biting incident, Zubizarreta decided to press ahead with his move from Liverpool despite the FIFA ban. He made his Barcelona debut on October 26, 2014 at the Bernabéu but has exploded this season with the club. Suárez has secured his first LaLiga top scorer "Pichichi" award and is set to win the European Golden Shoe for the second time in his career. He shared the award with Cristiano Ronaldo in his last season with Liverpool after bagging 31 goals. Suárez has even surpassed the 38 goals that the likes of Hugo Sánchez and Telmo Zarra managed.
The current season has also seen Suárez win the top scorer award at the FIFA Club World Cup staged in Japan last December with his 5 goals in games against Guangzhou (3 goals) and two against River Plate. The next challenge for the striker is the Copa America which starts in June. “We’re Uruguay and we are obliged to win” he stated recently.
The 29 forward is also at present a likely candidate for the next FIFA Ballon D’Or award which will be announced in January 2017.
