CASTILLA 6 - LA RODA 1
Real Madrid Castilla beat La Roda 6-1 and win their group
Real Madrid's 'B' side Castilla took advantage of Barakaldo slipping up and won their Segunda B group with a 6-1 win over La Roda. Mayoral scored two with Odegaard also on the scoresheet.
Real Madrid’s ‘B’ team, Real Madrid Castilla, managed the miracle the first team couldn’t manage and finished Champions of Group II of Segunda B, the Spanish league’s third tier. Real Madrid Castilla beat La Roda 6-1, with Norwegian Odegaard getting on the score sheet, and took full advantage of Barakaldo’s unexpected slip-up in Getxo (1-1).
Easier play-offs for Real Madrid Castilla
The results allowed Real Madrid Castilla to finish first on goal difference, level on points with Barakaldo, and hands them an easier path through the play-offs (there’s no automatic promotion from the Segunda B).
Real Madrid Castilla will now play one of these rivals home and away to ensure second division football next season: Racing Santander, Reus or UCAM Murcia.
Rain of goals
Ramis’ side destroyed La Roda, thrashing them 6-1, with the only moment of concern when the side from Castilla-La Mancha levelled to make it 1-1. From there Castilla powered on, with even Odegaard scoring, 449 days since his first and up to now only goal (21 February 2015). The Norwegian’s improvement has been noticeable. He made it 2-1, and shook that monkey off his back. His footballing imagination is far above this level, and he’ll be vital for Real Madrid Castilla in the play-offs.
The second part rained goals on La Roda: Rodríguez, Mayoral (2, one a penalty) and Cedrés got the four Real Madrid Castilla goals.
Real Madrid Castilla: 180 minutes from promotion
Castilla are exactly where they want to be. 180 minutes from being back in the second division, two years after they went down.
