Euro 2016: Cañizares slams Del Bosque over Spain squad

Former goalkeeper Santiago Cañizares has blasted Spain boss Vicente del Bosque over the make-up of his provisional Euro 2016 squad, which was revealed on Tuesday lunchtime.

Del Bosque has named an initial 25-man group for next month's European Championship in France - to be cut down to a final party of 23 on 31 May - with Diego Costa, Juan Mata and Fernando Torres among the notable omissions.

And the national coach's decision to add Valencia striker Paco Alcácer to those left off the list appears to have particularly provoked Cañizares' ire.

The 46-year-old ex-Spain international, who now works as a pundit in the Spanish media, took to social media after the announcement to criticise the La Roja boss and offer words of encouragement to Alcácer.

Cañizares wrote on Twitter: "I had other expectations of Del Bosque's squad, if I'm honest... But knowing what he's like I don't know why I got my hopes up. Keep your chin up Paco Alcácer".
