Atletico Madrid hearts were broken in Milan after Cristiano Ronaldo fired Real Madrid to their 11th European Cup success from the penalty spot, but los colchoneros were terrified by the possibility of a much greater loss: their manager Diego Simeone.

Simeone said that losing two Champions League finals in three seasons was a "failure", after Ronaldo scored the winning penalty to see Real Madrid take the penalty shoot-out 5-3, after a 1-1 draw.

The man the mattress -makers call 'El Cholo' also appeared to suggest that a potential exit from the Calderón might be on the cards for him after this defeat, saying he didn't know if he had to continue with Atleti or if this was "the end of a cycle? I have to think about about that. This puts years".

Ever since those declarations Atletico Madrid's fans have been falling over themselves to come up with ways to convince El Cholo to stay. The hashtag #choloquedate (Stay Cholo) was created on Twitter and on Monday a huge handwritten sign appeared outside the Vicente Calderon which reads: "Cholo, stay. ATM. This is your home, your famliy"

Diego Simeone has managed to break up the Barça-Real Madrid duopoly winning La Liga in 2013/14 and reaching the Champions League final twice in three seasons. No wonder the rojiblanco support are desperate for him to stay.
