Raúl: “Returning to the Bernabéu will be very emotional"
Real Madrid Legends take on Ajax Legends on Sunday at Santiago Bernabéu for the Corazón Classic charity match. Raul will line up with other ex-players such as Roberto Carlos, Figo and possibly Zidane.
Real Madrid Legend Raúl is set for an emotional Bernabéu return on Sunday as he plays in the Corazón Classic match, seven months after he retired from football last November. The charity game will see a whole team of Real Madrid Legends take on Ajax Legends.
“It’s going to be emotional because I know how much excitement and sentimentality is surrounding the game. To return to the Bernabéu – even though this time it’s not a competitive match – is always going to be emotional.”
Roberto Carlos, Hierro, Figo...
The special occasion – organized by the Real Madrid Foundation – will reunite a grand line-up of ex-footballers who’ve played for Los Blancos. Besides Raul, club greats such as Roberto Carlos, Hierro, Figo, Karembeu, Solari, Butragueño and Guti will all run out at the Bernabeú – all of which will are remembered for various magic moments by the Merngue faithful.
Zidane too could make an appearance. The current Real coach was one the legends whose face adorned the event’s publicity material, however, his name was left out of the final list of players given to press.
Despite this, the Bernabéu will be near capacity for the encounter, with only 3,000 tickets remaining in the 81,000-seater stadium. The game kicks off at 8.30pm (CET) and will be broadcast all around the world on Real Madrid TV.
