Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has signed a new long-term contract after an impressive first nine months in charge when he guided the team to the Europa League and Capital One Cup finals.

Klopp succeeded Brendan Rodgers last October, with the Premier League side finishing eighth, beaten by Sevilla in the Europa League final, and Manchester City in the English League Cup. Liverpool announced the news on their official website.

“The move, which was initiated by the club's ownership, is in recognition of the commitment shown by the German and his staff to developing, improving and ultimately leading a football structure that will bring sustained success”.

Liverpool's main owner John Henry, Chairman Tom Werner and Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon added: “When you have an individual of Jürgen's quality in the building it makes perfect sense to secure that person for the long term. To not do so would be irresponsible”.

Klopp's senior coaching staff Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz have also lengthened their deals to continue a coaching relationship spanning two decades. The German manager was thrilled at the development, telling the club's website: “It's hard to express in words how honoured myself, Zeljko and Peter feel by the commitment shown in us by the ownership and the club in general. We are very much at the beginning of our journey, but to already have the connection we have with this very special place is incredible”.
